Mary Grove on July 23, 2015. She was an owner of Grove T.V. in Franklin, Pa., with her husband, Howard. She is survived by a son, John; daughter, Sharon Fratcher, and two grandchildren.

Elvira Hickernell on May 23, 2015. She ended her career as office manager/secretary at First Presbyterian Church in Meadville, Pa. She is survived by one son, John R.; a daughter, Sally J. Overpeck, nine grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.

Louise Aichner Klapthor on Sept. 2, 2015. She was a business teacher at Strong Vincent High School in Erie, Pa., from 1964 until her retirement in 1989. She is survived by her son, George F. “Rick” Klapthor.
Dr. Robert P. Krall on May 10, 2015. He graduated from Jefferson Medical College. He was a veteran of World War II, having served as a U.S. Army Air Corps captain. He retired from the medical field in 1985. He is survived by two sons, James and Dr. Robert; a brother, Alfred, three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Genevieve Cook Staley on Aug. 28, 2015. She was active with her family and various service groups such as Girl Scouts, AAUW, Kappa Kappa Gamma, Christ Union Chapel and the Normanoch Association. She is survived by a daughter, Jane Schroyer; a son, Franklin Karl Schroyer, Jr., and a granddaughter.
Elizabeth Miller Zaro on May 23, 2015. She grew up in Ebensburg, Pa., attended Allegheny and graduated from Drexel University. She was a lieutenant junior grade in the U.S. Navy during World War II. The Betty Miller Zaro ’41 Music Fund at Allegheny was created in her memory. She is survived by two sons, Christopher and Timothy J. Zaro ’79; a daughter, Victoria Loving, and three grandchildren.

Nancy Tack on July 19, 2015. She was co-founder of Sugar Creek Rest in Worthington, Pa. She is survived by three sons, Philip, Kenneth and Walter; three daughters, Margaret Kutz, Jean Dobay and Helen Tack, and 15 grandchildren.

Lois Baker on July 26, 2015. She attended Allegheny and the University of Maryland. She is survived by two sons, Stuart and Robert; two daughters, Leslie Rhone and Alison Supple; two sisters, Joan Mennie and Sally Rutter, and six grandchildren.
Ralph J. Davis, Jr. on Aug. 5, 2015. He earned a D.D.S. from the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine. During World War II, he was a navigator and instructor, and rose to the rank of second lieutenant. He started his own dental practice in 1951 and worked for 36 years before retiring in 1987. He was an active member of the Alden Hook and Ladder Co. for 60 years. He is survived by his wife, Ruth; three sons, Richard, Gregory and Christian; a daughter, Ellen Davis-Zehr, and eight grandchildren.
Gladys Swartz on July 16, 2015. She worked as an executive secretary in the legal and banking industries. She is survived by a son, Craig Swartz; a daughter, Adarsh Khalsa, and three grandchildren.

Frances Wallace Bell on Aug. 30, 2015. She worked at Gulf Oil and Koppers Co. in Pittsburgh. She and her husband, David, were members of the Fox Chapel Racquet Club, Longue Vue Club and the Fox Chapel Presbyterian Church. She is survived by a daughter, Lauren Schuler, and two grandchildren.
Ann Chambers on May 20, 2015. She earned her master’s degree from Cleveland State University. After raising a family, her career focused on early childhood education. She is survived by a son, William Chambers; three daughters, Madeline Pendergrass, Louise Barrow and Cynthia Miller; a brother, Peter Matthews, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Ellen Davey on July 27, 2015. She worked in real estate sales and as a medical secretary. She is survived by two daughters, Jan Ellis and Jill Esquivel, and five grandchildren.
Donald Ludwig on June 28, 2015. He earned a master’s degree in economics from Clemson University. He worked for the Department of Labor, Wage and Hour Division, for more than 50 years. He is survived by a son, Alan.

Joanne Carroll on July 29, 2015. She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma while at Allegheny. She received her master’s from Tulane University in 1954. After graduation she accepted a position at Cambria County Welfare, where she later became the youngest-serving director of the institution. She continued her professional career as a supervisor at the Flood Relief Center and as a therapist for Cambria County Mental Health/Retardation/Drug and Alcohol. She ended her career as an adoption consultant for children and youth. She is survived by two daughters, Christine Cagle and Amy Rose; a sister; Joyce Osborn, and five granddaughters.

Don A. Higby on Aug. 27, 2015. He was a 1955 graduate of the University of Pittsburgh Dental School. He served as a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II in the European Theater and received the Air Medal with Four Oak Leaf Clusters. He was a dentist in private practice in Millcreek Township near Erie, Pa., for 35 years, retiring in 1987. His professional memberships included the American Dental Association, the Pennsylvania Dental Association and the Erie County Dental Association, and he was a former member of the American College of General Dentistry. He is survived by a brother, Leonard Higby, and a sister, Alice Hermanson.

Ruth Gilkey on July 24, 2015. She worked as a social worker for the YWCA, associate director of continuing education and assistant director of the women’s program at Sienna Heights College and as a career counselor at Adrian College. She earned a master’s degree in educational psychology from the University of Michigan. She is survived by her husband, William Gilkey; son, John; three daughters, Lyn Drennan, Ann Gilkey and Laura Gilkey, and 10 grandchildren.
Arthur Hopper on July 12, 2015. He received his master’s degree from Drew Divinity School and his doctorate at Yale. He was a theology professor at the Methodist Theological School. He is survived by a son, Timothy P. Brown; two daughters, Kathryn Flynn and Ellen Allen; two brothers, John and David, and four grandchildren.

Marvin Goldstein on June 15, 2015. He entered the U.S. Air Force after graduating from Allegheny, achieving the rank of staff sergeant. After his service, he was a social studies teacher in Westchester schools until joining the family business in 1969. He is survived by his partner, Helen Deckelman; two sons, Drew and Graeme; two daughters, Susan and Celia, 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Glenn R. Jones on July 2, 2015. He served in the U.S. Navy as an explosive ordnance disposal officer in the Pacific Amphibious Assault Unit. He graduated from the University of Colorado School of Law. He will be remembered as a cable industry and distance-education pioneer. He was the founder of Jones Intercable and several other technology and media-focused companies in the Colorado area.

Margaret Lacey on Aug. 10, 2015. She was a teacher at Pilgrim Nursery School in Glen Ridge, N.J., for 30 years. She served as the church school coordinator for the Glen Ridge Congregational Church for 25 years and was active in the Suburban Cultural Educational Enrichment Program that serves underprivileged children from Newark. She is survived by four daughters, Susan, Lynne, Jill and Carol; two brothers, Richard and William, and seven grandchildren.
Rev. Lee W. Parker, Jr. on July 8, 2014. After Allegheny, he received a master’s degree from Westminster College and a master of divinity degree from Drew University. He served five churches in Western Pennsylvania during a span of 40 years. He is survived by his wife, Faye Smock Parker ’54; two sons, Donald and Christopher; two daughters, Linda and Melanie; a sister, Florence Alexander, and a granddaughter.

Martha Allphin on May 4, 2015. Later in her life, she earned a master’s in education. She became a manager at IBM and then worked as a substitute teacher. She is survived by two daughters, Sondra and Nancy Allphin; two sisters, Lois Nicholson and Ruth Nicholson Beebe-Center, five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Virginia Reed on Sept. 2, 2015. She earned her master’s degree in early childhood education from Manhattanville College. She married her Allegheny classmate David A. Reed ’55 while he was serving in the U.S. Army. She was a United Airlines flight attendant, an elementary school teacher and director of a nursery school for many years. She volunteered for more than 20 years at the Ocean Institute of Dana Point, Calif., and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Hollywood and San Clemente chapters. She is survived by her husband.
Mona Beth Sherrick on June 18, 2015. She was a lifelong member of the Episcopal Church and served as a Christian educator in all of the churches to which she belonged, ultimately retiring as Christian education director from the Church of the Transfiguration in Dallas, Texas. She is survived by a son, Stuart Sherrick; a daughter, Mona Sherrick, and a brother, James Fullerton.

Leonard Cole on July 9, 2015. He was an Airman 3rd Class with the U.S. Air Force. After Allegheny, he joined Insurance Company of North America. He ultimately became principal and owner at Ferioli Insurance and retired in 1996. He is survived by two sons, Greg and Billy; a daughter, Karrie, and three grandchildren.
Lynn E. Santner on April 14, 2015. While at Allegheny, he joined the Reserve Officers Training Corps, and earned a degree in business administration. He was commissioned into the U.S. Air Force, retiring with the rank of captain, and went to work in business in the Boston, Mass., area. Among his jobs, he was the associate director of financial aid at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. He is survived by his wife, Marcia Cunningham ’59; a son, Robert Santner; two daughters, Elizabeth Cuff and Susan Borucki; a brother, Jon Santner, and five grandchildren.

Marilyn Smith on July 13, 2015. She was an accomplished vocalist, including her time as a soloist with the Allegheny College Choir, and toured with many other choirs throughout her life. She is survived by her husband, Dick; a son, Kevin Van Strum; a daughter, Jennifer Fontanella, and two grandchildren.

Dr. Joseph L. Barretta on May 13, 2015. He received his dental degree from the University of Pittsburgh. He was a captain in the U.S. Army Dental Corps in Verona, Italy, then later on the staff of the Polyclinique Universitaire, Lausanne, Switzerland, before returning to Meadville to establish his practice in 1971. He is survived by a son, Dr. Clifton Barretta; a daughter, Dr. Simone Barretta McCarter; two sisters, Jane Stevens and Dr. Angeline Barretta Herman, and three grandsons.
Cynthia Richards Cutri on July 26, 2015. She worked as features editor and writer for the Erie Times-News. She is survived by her husband, Edward; three sons, Randall, Christopher and Stephen; two daughters, Anne and Laura; sister, Sarah Rajan, and nine grandchildren.
George R. Jerko, Sr. on July 4, 2015. He was a U.S. Army Veteran, having served in the Korean War. He retired in 1996 from the Business and Accounting Company in Ridgway, Pa. He is survived by two sons, George R. and Gregory S. Jerko; a daughter, Christine Jerko-Holland, PhD.; a brother, Robert M. Jericho, and two grandsons.
Wayne Quimby on June 20, 2015. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He worked at Skyline Industries in sales and then for Phillips Products and Oil Creek Plastics as a customer service supervisor. He worked for the last 30 years at Pyramid Industries as a traffic manager. He is survived by his wife, Helen; a son, David; two daughters, Ann Warner and Beth Quimby; three sisters, Jean Maiben, Phyliss Palmer and Ruth Trist, and four grandchildren.

Bruce Byers on Aug. 12, 2015. He had graduate degrees from Carnegie Tech and the University of Pittsburgh. He was president and co-owner of Management Resource Associates. He is survived by his wife, Carole; a daughter, Linda Parrish; two sons, Bruce, Jr. and Jeffrey; a brother, Larry, and four grandchildren.
David E. Jordan on Nov. 27, 2014. He served in the U.S. Navy, was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Law School in 1967 and retired from Nestle in 1996. He is survived by his wife, Ann; two sons, Matthew and Thomas, and six grandchildren.

Patricia Petersen on June 25, 2015. She operated an antiques business in Connecticut and later worked in a preschool program. She is survived by three sons, Bob, Craig and Todd Petersen; a brother, Peter, and six grandchildren.

Joseph Valentino on July 22, 2015. He graduated from Case Western Reserve University School of Law in Cleveland. He was a civil trial lawyer in practice for many years with Routman, Moore, Goldstone and Valentino. He later held his own private practice, Joseph P. Valentino P.C. He is survived by his wife, Stephanie; two daughters, Lisa Newmeyer and Traci Valentino, and four grandchildren.

Amberson Bauer on May 31, 2015. He graduated from the University of Pittsburgh School of Dental Medicine and completed his advanced graduate degree in orthodontia at Boston University. He was a partner with Bauer Mascia Orthodontics and had private practices in the Pittsburgh area. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn; three sons, Dr. Brad L., Dr. Jeffrey C. and Amberson C. III; a brother, Jack Bauer; a sister, Ann Buechli, and eight grandchildren.
Lana Ferguson on April 29, 2015. She received a master’s degree in library science from the University of Pittsburgh. She worked for 22 years at the Guilford Free Library, first as director of children’s services and subsequently as assistant director of the library. She is survived by her husband, Richard; three sons, Kirk, Todd and Scott; a brother, Les Hough, and nine grandchildren.

Kimberly Prager on Aug. 7, 2015. After graduation, she moved to Boston and joined the First National Bank of Boston, where she became a vice president. She continued her financial career with the investment firm R.W. Corby. She is survived by her husband, Robert; two stepsons, Richard and Michael; a stepdaughter, Judith; two brothers, Victor and Richard Kress; two sisters, Patricia Cotta and Karen Sherman, and six grandchildren.

Dennis Budzbanowski on June 3, 2015. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves and established the DJB Group Insurance Agency in Meadville. He is survived by his wife, Sandra.
Charlene Gunter on July 27, 2015. She received her master’s degrees in business administration and management in 1979 from Webster College. She worked for the Altoona School District as a secondary English teacher and then for the Southeastern Aluminum Corp. in Florida. While following her husband, Billie, who was a Naval aviator, on a four-month cruise, she became an active volunteer assistant to the director of the United Service Organization, Naples, Italy. She also volunteered as head interviewer for the Navy Relief Society. In addition, the couple worked at the NAS Kingsville Ground Training Department. She is survived by a stepdaughter, Diana Donnel, and a stepson, Robert Gunter.
Larry Meysenburg on July 2, 2015. He received his master’s degree in history from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. He is survived by a sister, Mary Ann Meysenburg, and a brother, Bill Meysenburg.

Joseph LoBue on May 28, 2015. He worked for more than 25 years with the U.S. Office of Personnel Management in a variety of management positions. He was one of the original executives at the U.S. Investigations Services and retired from the Grove City office as corporate director of employee relations in 2008. He then began his own consulting business, JML Human Resource Consulting, in Mars, Pa. He also was active in the community. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Sedor LoBue; two sons, Christopher LoBue and Michael LoBue, and several grandchildren.

Kali Albern on Aug. 15, 2015. She died in her Colorado home following an illness. She spent her life caring about people and helping others with their troubles and challenges. She is survived by her parents, Bob and Sherri, and her grandmothers, Joan and Carolyn.
Hannah Kopp Morris on Oct. 29, 2015. She died after being struck by a car on North Main Street. A junior neuroscience major, she was the daughter of James Robert Morris and Jane Kopp Morris. In addition to her parents, she is survived by brothers, Charles and William.
